Ellen Tauscher

My internship is the best! I work for the California News Service, where I get:
  • a press pass to Capitol Hill (which is like gold in this city)
  • published in major CA papers (SF Chronicle, Contra Costa Times, Mercury News, Stockton Record, to name a few)
  • the freedom to pursue any subject
  • an amazing editor who sits down with me for one-on-one editing
  • a private office
  • free time to explore
  • real-life experience as a journalist
  • interviews with big-cheese politicians!

I got to interview Ellen Tauscher, the Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and Security. It was a one-on-one interview in her private office. She works right under Hillary Clinton. Click here to read my story about her, it was published in the SF Chronicle!

Her office is high-security, no tape recorders allowed! I'm learning how to write really fast and making up my own shorthand.

  1. Amber! these are such great opportunities and I'm so glad that you're making the most of them!

After reading your article, I have a question regarding the disposal of nuclear warheads. The article reads, "the new START treaty limits the number of long-range warheads to 1,550, down from the current limit of 2,200". How are they "limited"? Are they destroyed and disposed of, or are they simply deactivated? The definition of "limited" strongly affects the significance of the new START treaty.
